Situated at the conjunction area of Hunan, Hubei and Jiangxi provinces, Wuning County has a total area of 3,500.6 square kilometers, ranking 4th in Jiangxi. It enjoys the warm and humid subtropical monsoon climate with superb natural conditions and ecological beauties. Wuning has a history of over 1,800 years since its establishment as an official county in 199 AC.
Due to rapid economic and social development, Wuning County has been awarded 11 honorary titles, namely, “National Healthy County”, “National Ecological Demonstration Zone”, “Cultural Advanced County in China”, “China’s Excellent County on the Comprehensive Improvement of Urban Environment”, “ National Model Town on Civilization”, “ National Garden County”, “National Civilization County”, “National Safety County”, “National Safety Smoothness County”, “National Advanced County in Returning the Land to Forestry”, and “National Advanced Model County on Right Reforms of the Collective Forestry”.
Wuning enjoys a favorable geographical advantage. Situated in the golden delta region connecting Wuhan, Nanchang and Jiujiang, it borders Mount Lushan in the east, Jiu Gongshan in the north, and San Zhualun National Park in the south. Endowed with rich forest resources, with a total forestland of 3,820,000 square kilometers and a forest coverage of over 70%, Wuning County is one of the key counties of Forestry industries in Jiangxi.
Wuning is endowed with abundant ecological and tourism resources. Crowned as “the garden in the heaven” by Hongkong media, Wuning boasts gorgeous mountains, clear rivers as well as charming landscapes. Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao wrote down “Shan Shui Wu Ning” (meaning a place of beautiful mountains and clear waters) after he visited Wuning on April 4, 2007.
Wuning features unique ecological resources of tourism. It has the largest man-made lake in Jiangxi province—Lushanxihai (The West Lake of Mount Lushan). The lake is shared by Wuning and Yongxiu jointly, and Wuning accounts for 80 percent of the total waters. It is the national key scenic spot and the water is clear and pure. The water quality reaches to the second class of national standard and belongs to the first standard of national waters. With gorgeous peak rising abruptly from the ground, Wulingyan and Wuwangfeng are full of primitive beauty.
Stretching along the northwest of Wuning, Jiugong Mountain is poetic and picturesque with charismatic waterfalls and flowing springs. Luxi Cave, hailed as “the Underground Crystal Palace in the South of China” and honored as the “Longest Natural Solution Carve in Asia”, is in the north part of the county. Currently, there are over 20 tourist attractions open to the public in Wuning, which serve as a ecological leisure tourism resort integrating mountains, lakes, island, caves, hot springs, drifting, religion as well as leisure.
Wuning is also rich in minerals, water resources as well as agricultural and sideline products. Over thirty kinds of minerals can be found within the territory. The annual runoff of rivers reaches 2.95 billion cubic meters, equal to 147.000 kilowatts. Abundant agricultural and sideline products won Wuning “the Land of Kiwi” in China. And Wuning has offered various green products, including black sesame, mushroom, bamboo shoots and other local products.
Wuning enjoys a convenient transportation network, with the Dalian-Guangzhou Expressway, Fuzhou-Yinchuan Expressway and Beijing-Kowloon Railway passing through the county. Besides, it has formed a crisscrossing road network extending all directions and connecting neighboring areas. It is about two hours drive to Wuhan and about one and a half hours drive to Nanchang. With the rapid development of communication facilities, electronic remittance business has been fully opened, making it an ideal place for both investment and living.
Wuning boasts abundant human and cultural resources. Among them are “the Eight Great Scenic Spots”, namely, Zhengjiao Thatched House, Nanpu Fisherman’s Song, Crane Bridge and Bright Moon, Jade Pillow and Gentle Breeze, and so on. Ancient poets and calligraphers, including Liuhun, Su Dongpo, Huang Tingjian, Zhou Lianxi, once lived in seclusion in Wuning, making the sites the legendary cultural heritages. Recently, Amida Temple (Mituo Temple), a Buddhist holy land in Phoenix Mountain, which lies in the border between Wuning County and Hubei province, enjoys a good reputation and popularity both at home and abroad.
Wuning’s urban construction enjoys a rapid development. Currently it has been awarded as one of the fifty “Most Beautiful Small Cities in China”, and is building the county into a livable garden city. Moreover, Wuning is striving to become “the capital of China’s green photoelectric industry”, “the most beautiful county in China” and “an international resort for tourism and leisure”.
